exportToXL | export data from SAS to Excel

Are you tired of manually exporting data from SAS to Excel? We were too! That’s why we created exportToXL, a free, open-source SAS macro for automatically exporting data from SAS into custom formatted Excel spreadsheets.

Why exportToXL?

exportToXL is an open-source SAS macro for exporting data from PC SAS into custom-formatted Excel spreadsheets. It automates the task of custom-formatting aspects of an Excel spreadsheet, such as font size, color, numerical format, placement of the data--even pivot tables and graphs. This automation saves considerable time and reduces data errors.

The ExcelXP tagset and with the LIBNAME engine can also export data from SAS to Excel, but exportToXL does a few things that ExcelXP and/or the LIBNAME engine can't do, such as

  • Create side-by-side tables (can’t be done with ExcelXP).

  • Work with or without a template (neither ExcelXP nor LIBNAME can do both).

  • Create graphs (can’t be done with ExcelXP).

  • Be free (the LIBNAME engine is part of the SAS/ACCESS add-on package)

  • Be programmed to do pretty much anything that can be done manually (can’t be done with ExcelXP or LIBNAME). This is because exportToXL works by programming the keystroke/click commands the user would use to do it manually.

More information about exportToXL can be found in this paper (more specific information).
